MY FIRST FONDANT CAKE!

After long busy days I usually retire to my bedroom where I then write in my thankful journal, read or write in my planner check to do lists etc., and then turn on the TV. Even 20 min. helps me relax and wind down before falling asleep.
Their are very few shows I enjoy watching. I usually want to see something light and not too heart wrenching because I'm already exhausted. So I discovered I love to watch the cooking shows...particularly the CAKE shows! After all they involve two of my favorite things....DESSERT and ART!
I recently decided that I wanted to try creating my own fondant cakes...FOR FUN.
I've done some research and gathered materials and one afternoon I went for it.. I baked 6 round cakes and used two bags or powdered sugar making frosting. IT WAS A JOKE! I was interrupted many many times by either the phone or my kids and by the time I was ready to even start the fondant I felt like giving up. Then I went to frost the cakes and they fell a part. AAAAH! forget it I thought and everything went into the trash including all my research papers from the Internet. I told Troy that I wasn't cut out for this or rather the timing was off and I would have to wait until my life was a lot less hectic. Like when I'm 60!
Lucky for me I have good friends who help me grow! I had already offered to make a cake for Harley's Birthday and Kim called to tell me I didn't have to make it if I didn't want to.(Which made me think and I realized I REALLY DID want to. ) I shoved discouragement and my pride aside and decided I was going to make Harley a great cake! The next day I looked up and printed out all my recipes again, got my tools out and set to work. This time it was a better success. I had learned from my mistakes and this time things went a lot smoother. Making the fondant was so fun. It is like playing with clay! Except yummier! My boys thought so too and were right by my side the whole time.
(The only thing I left out was how many times Troy came through the kitchen that week and witnessed all the different stages (cakewize and emotionalwize) I was in. He would make comments of encouragement or make me laugh by calling me Cake Boss or something! When It was all said and done Troy said,"I knew you wouldn't give up and I Knew You could do it" I'm so grateful for a husband who builds me up and knows me better than I know myself.)
WALLA! A ROCK STAR CAKE FOR HARLEY!
The hardest part was the music notes. I don't know if it tasted good cause I never got to eat it.
But it felt good to find success and be creative.
I hope to get better with each cake as few and far between as they may be.
